This video is slow to get out every year, but it's worth the wait. The largest motorsports event in the world, 1200 people made the trip to Lincoln, Nebraska to drive around cones in a parking lot. Sound boring? Watch the video.

I recognize like 6-7 of the car as they are from my region. Maybe some day I'll be good enough to make the trip and compete.

Honestly, that's the wrong way to look at it mate.

It's a full week of the best autocross carnival in the world. The atmosphere is fantastic, the courses are sublime, the grip on the concrete is utterly insane.

I was campaigning a stock power (110ish WHP) 97 Miata in STR with about $1.5k worth of suspension and was very, very happy to come 37th out of 50 vs the much more capable S2K's and 350Z's. I had an absolute blast all week on the social side of the event, and the annoyance on the faces and in the voices of the S2K drivers I did beat with the ultimate underdog car was a great rush for the competition element.

You don't have to be "good enough" to make the trip, trust me. If you can't win at the racing, try to win the margarita drinking competitions :)

On the topic of the FiST though, have you seen smoking tires dyno-pull in one? Those engines are underrated.

Would it kill them to either tell a story or show one full run on the course? Seems like with go pros everywhere these days it would be pretty easy to produce a short over view of the biggest classes and tell the story.

I've made the trek to Nationals twice - in 2000 and 2001, when it was still at Forbes Field in Topeka. I didn't come home with hardware either time, but it was still a fantastic experience. If you're into autocrossing and have been thinking about this, do it. At least once. No matter where you finish, you will not regret it.

No bikes. Needs 4 wheels and generally some kind of restraints.

Be warned though, Autocross seems to be pretty addictive. I've heard you don't even need to try any to get hooked. Sometimes the sight of it is all it takes.

What's nice is you don't need a race car - there are many classes for almost completely stock cars. Your street car is probably fine, with some exceptions (tall SUVs, etc.)

They definitely show up to local events. Don't think there has been anyone with significant national-level success in one yet, though. There is a bit of a herd mentality at the top level, so it would take one rebel to have success against the Mustang to open the tides.

Process: Open 2013 nationals results. Assume that's a CP car. Sure enough, found one non-firebird/mustang/thunderbird. Googled the name of the driver. Done.
